How to Upload Kml to Qgis Image
Google Drive is a popular data sharing platform from Google. I accept been using information technology for many years to go on some data in detail the data that I want to share with others. I'm sure that many people also using Google Bulldoze out there including y'all. There are many kinds of data that can be stored in Google Drive similar document, prototype, music, and many more including GIS data. If we desire to share the information, merely information technology can be washed in the sharing option to go a sharing link and and so we send the link to other people which permit him/her to access the data.
When having a sharing link, one tin open a shared folder to view and download data. For certificate like word, spreadsheet, pdf and image, information technology is possible to preview it before downloading to a local machine. What about GIS data? Tin nosotros preview it, to encounter how it looks like earlier saving information technology to a local machine? Unfortunately for GIS data, it's not possible to do that. Then if nosotros can't preview information technology, can we open it directly from Google Drive with a GIS software? I think it's an interesting question, cause by opening directly a GIS data from Google Drive with a GIS software, non simply to view it, we tin can as well play with the data. With this capability, volition brand GIS information sharing more convenient.
In this tutorial I will explicate step by step how to access a GIS data both vector and raster directly from Google Drive with QGIS software. For this tutorial I'm using QGIS three.x.
Access GIS Vector Data From Google Drive
To exercise vector data sharing through Google drive, nosotros are using vector information in geojson format. If your data in some other format, convert it into geojson. It can be done easily in QGIS with the following steps:
ane. Add the data into QGIS map canvas.
2. From information technology's layer name, right click and select Export then Save Feature As... equally shown in figure 1.
Effigy 1. Salvage/Consign data into another format in QGIS |
iii. The Salvage Vector Layer as... window will exist shown every bit in effigy 2. In the Format option select GeoJSON and in the File proper noun, specify the output path and also the name of output file. If you desire to change the coordinate system, define information technology in CRS choice.
Figure two. Export/Save data into GeoJSON |
Upload the information into Google drive. Then prepare the sharing pick for the file. Right click the file in the google drive and select Share equally seen in effigy three.
Figure 3. Share a file in Google Drive |
Nether Become Link part, click Change. The Go link menu will appear as in figure iv. Select Anyone with the link and set is every bit Viewer. Based on the sharing setting, a sharing link will be created. Re-create it by selecting Copy link.
Figure 4. Change file sharing option |
The sharing link will be await as follow:
https://bulldoze.google.com/file/d/1JR1drXAQRMDDS0FMSMIGCT20-ufhz2O8/view?usp=sharing
We already accept a sharing link, but nosotros tin can't use it to admission the shared data in QGIS. Nosotros take to modify information technology a little bit to be like the following format. Exist conscientious not to to change the red highlighted text. Because that is the file ID and it'south unique for each file.

Now let's try to open up the shared information in Google drive with QGIS. Select Data Source Manager, and choose Vector on the left menu. In the Source Type option select Protocol: HTTP(Due south), cloud, etc. Nether Protocol select GeoJSON for Blazon and in the URI fill in with the modified google bulldoze sharing link. Finally push Add button. Run across figure v.

QGIS will fetch the remote file in Google drive depends on internet speed and the file size. When it washed the file volition be added into map canvas as in figure 6.

Open GIS Raster Data From Google Drive
Afterwards opening straight a vector data from Google drive. At present allow's try to open up raster data. The chief steps are the same with the previous footstep. Here we need to upload a raster information in geotiff format into google drive and fix and alter the sharing link to be as follow.
https://bulldoze.google.com/uc?id=117NzcFlcy-NGB4enu4O8DINNZ2e34TQL&consign?format=tif
Open Information Source Manager again. Now select Raster, then cull Protocol: HTTP(S), cloud, etc. Under the Protocol, select HTTP/HTTPS/FTP in the Type option and in URI parameter fill in with the modified raster sharing link as in figure 7.
Effigy 7. Open Raster information from Google Drive |
After pushing the Add button, the raster data from Google drive will be added into QGIS map sheet equally in seen in figure eight.
Figure 8. Geotiff information from Google Bulldoze added into QGIS map canvas |
If you notice the shared link, information technology is too long and hard to remember. Furthermore the returned layer proper name also like the long shared link begin with uc?id=..... as seen in figure 6 or 8. Nosotros want something shorter and easy to remember. For this, we can use a link shortener service like scrap.ly. Using the link shortening service I change the link to http://bit.ly/street_geojson for vector information and http://chip.ly/ndvi_image for raster. Now information technology is shorter and like shooting fish in a barrel to retrieve, isn't it?
That'southward all how to admission GIS data straight from Google bulldoze with QGIS. With this capability we can share GIS data with a link to other people and he/she tin can open up it directly from QGIS. If you lot are working remotely in a team or having an online GIS course, at present Google drive would be your GIS data provider. Thanks for reading!
